I'm Pregnant!!!

I've been trying to get pregnant for years! Ever since my last baby was born. Month after month went by with no conception. My timing wasn't right, but God's timing is perfect. He had lessons to teach me before He allowed me another child.

Voila! Here's the photo of my recently conceived baby, still a bit fuzzy. Not quite sure how he or she will develop, but progressing nicely.

Authors compare writing a book to having a baby.

I'm right now at that ecstatic stage. I want to tell the world I'm pregnant! A new book is on its way! So excited I want to shout the title from the rooftops, but my publisher and agent warn against divulging the name until the actual birth. Day by day my baby grows.

As excited as I am, I fear the days ahead knowing satan will do all he can to destroy my child and me. There will be sleepless nights when the baby just won't stop moving and I can't sleep. Middle of the night book writing is not my plan, but sometimes my unborn child won't settle down until the written page lulls him back to sleep. There will be worries that the baby will have something wrong with it or will have little impact in this world. And then there is the birth to look forward. Oh my, the pain of editing and having others chop up your masterpiece.

Delivery day is another moment of exultation. Huge announcements and parties and fun. Everyone will love the baby at first. But, there are always the doubters who think your baby isn't quite as cute as another baby they just read.

After delivery, reality hits. Oh my, am I prepared to parent this child? How do I market my baby so he or she becomes effective in the book world of competition. Truth is, once the baby is born, the real work begins. Raising your child. I don't expect to raise a genius, but I do pray some lives will be touched by His presence.

I just became pregnant and I am giving myself nine months to birth this book. The Lord may have other plans. Some books are early and some late. I leave it in His Hands.

Would you pray for me during this pregnancy, labor, delivery, and parenting a newborn to adulthood?

In my heart I feel this book could be a powerful source in the less-than-joyful world where we live.

My husband read the first chapter and said,

"That came straight from God. It looks like you need to write another book."

And so I do.

Pray for Dan too. Expectant fathers must deal with craziness when their wife is expecting. I mean, sometimes I get so wrapped up in the script I forget to eat, ignore the time, and can neglect my man. Pray I will have words from the Lord in His timing, so I can finish the work He planned for me, while being an excellent wife to my dear Dan. Thank you.

Praying this baby brings splashes of serenity to many and to me as I write,

Can You Help Me Fight for Marriages?

This week begins the re-release of my book We All Married Idiots: Three Things You Will Never Change About Your Marriage and Ten Things You Can. My publisher, Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas, and I are working hard to give legs to Idiots. Why? Because we've seen how this book is influencing couples to look at each other as gifts to treasure instead of idiots to tolerate. We want We All Married Idiots to be used by God to fight for marriages.

How does a book get legs? We need you to walk it, talk it, blog it, buy it, give it, share it to the people in your circle whose marriage is running in circles and going nowhere fast.

Thank you to author Olivia Stocum for her post today promoting We All Married Idiots. Check it out at http://theclaymoreandsurcoat.com/2013/04/29/shameless-self-promotion-this-time-for-my-dear-friend/

What thrilled me are the two who read Olivia's blog on We All Married Idiots and then reposted  to their blogs. That's what it means to give legs to a book. We All Married Idiots wants to walk into your neighborhood. Can you help me fight for marriages? Thank you!

God's Divine Book Selling Appointments

Our waitress bubbled, "I'm so excited! My husband just graduated with a degree in journalism and we're moving south!"

A degree in journalism! My ears perked at those words.  "Hey, if your husband likes writing, he might be interested in reading my new book!" I handed her a postcard of We All Married Idiots book cover.  (Yes, authors, carry postcards or book marks and be ready to hand them to anyone anywhere.)

She took my postcard and left. Within minutes she was back beaming in her sweet southern accent,  "Where can I get this book?"

I told her it was available on-line or at bookstores or she could buy one from me. (Yes, authors, always carry copies expecting these God appointments.)

One book sold. One marriage helped.

She returned smiling, "Do you have more books? People in the back want to buy one. Can they download it on Kindle or Nook?"

More God appointments!

A different waitress arrived, not to take our order, but to buy a book.

Another God appointment. Another marriage encouraged.

The second waitress returned a second time asking, "Do you have more with you? One of the other waitresses wants a copy really bad but she has no money. I thought I'd buy it for her."

Wow! The God appointments keep on coming!

Our smiling southern waitress returned with our check and a plea: "One more? The cook wants a copy?"

The cook himself arrived at our table saying "I've only been married a year and things aren't going well. My wife will be so pleased that I bought a book admitting to her that I'm an idiot!" He smiled, but I sensed his pain for his hurting marriage.

"Hold on to your marriage!" I told him." I packed my husband's bags three times our first year and we will soon celebrate 42 years together."

"Wow!!! That makes me feel better. Thanks!" He smiled deeper now and returned to the kitchen with hope and a copy of We All Married Idiots.

What a day! Four books sold in a restaurant to four hungry people.

The world sits at the edge of their seats waiting for someone to serve them hope. Authors, God gave us our books and we should not be embarrassed to market them. The words we say and the books we write give splashes of serenity in a world that is drained.

Perhaps your marriage needs hope. You can order  We All Married Idiots: Three Things You Will Never Change About Your Marriage and Ten Things You Can at http://www.amazon.com/We-All-Married-Idiots-Marriage/dp/0984765522/ or on this website.

May God bless our ministries!

Should Authors Toot Their Own Horns?

Loved this photo of my granddaughter, Brenna, blowing the trumpet her Grandpa blew back in his school days. As you can see from her cheeks, she is giving it all she's got and it worked. A loud trumpet sound came from the lungs of that tiny girl.

I love to watch children because God commands us to be like little children. Brenna was on a mission to make sound come from that brass horn. She succeeded when she worked at it with all of her might.

So what toots your horn? What are you passionate about? Colossians 3:23 says "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men...." Whatever toots your horn, I hope you work at it with all your heart.

It took all my heart to write three books. Now I am in the marketing phase of We All Married Idiots: Three Things You Will Never Change About Your Marriage and Ten Things You Can. Marketing can seem like I'm tooting my own horn. I'm not. I'm tooting God's horn and I am praising Him for the miracle of this next book.

Authors, go ahead and toot your horn. Don't be ashamed. God gave you a book. God gave you a publisher. Toot so the whole world will know! He didn't give you those words to hide in your private book case never to be read by anyone but family. Toot! Toot! Toot some more!!! The next person you tell may be the one whose life will change because God intended him or her to read your book.

Another author asked me once, "Aren't you embarrassed promoting your own work." My honest answer, "God gave me this book. I'd be disobedient to Him if I didn't promote it."

While you are marketing, ask others to toot your horn as well!

May 1, 2012 is the official release of We All Married Idiots. There will be a lot of tooting going on as blogs feature my book during the month of May. Any bloggers out there willing to toot my horn? Let's do it for God's glory. Contact me if you would let your blog tell the world about We All Married Idiots.

We All Married Idiots is available today on Amazon at a pre-release price of $6.08. As my publisher said, "That's crazy!" Another reviewer said this book should be given to every new bride and groom. Why not order one for yourself and several to give away before the price goes up. Thanks. Check out Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/We-All-Married-Idiots-Marriage/dp/0984765522/

May your marriage be filled with splashes of serenity as husbands and wives toot their horns and make beautiful music together!
