A Fairytale Wedding Doesn't Guarantee Happily Everafter

Welcome to our wedding! Forty-one years ago we stood at an altar with stars in our eyes believing the glow of those candles would last a lifetime.  We didn't realize it then, but both of us were idiots and one of us was a fool. There's a difference. You'll have to read We All Married Idiots to understand.

Our first years of marriage were rough. I packed Dan's bags numerous times because I expected him to fulfill needs that no man could fulfill. I wasn't happy so I thought, what many unhappily married people think, perhaps I married the wrong person. You see, I was concentrating on the three things I could never change about my marriage instead of focusing on the ten things I could.

I shudder thinking what my life would have been like had I succesfully thrown away this wonderful man I love with all my heart. I thank God for Dan and his commitment to me when I was a fool. Forty-one years later we glow with a love that lasted and we give thanks to God for allowing two idiots grow old together.

Hold on to your marriage! Don't let go. It's worth fighting for.

There is joy in enduring love. Find out how to make it happen in We All Married Idiots: Three Things You Will Never Change About Your Marriage and Ten Things You Can. Available at http://www.amazon.com/We-All-Married-Idiots-Marriage/dp/0984765522/

We All Married Idiots will encourage you to esteem your spouse as a gift to treasure not an idiot to tolerate. That's a splash of serenity every marriage needs!

  2. Very sweet post. There is no 'always' attached to the 'happily ever after' either - like any relationship, a marriage has its highs and lows.

  3. Elaine,

I love your wedding photograph, now that I have met your girls, I must say they look just like you. You must be so proud and thankful, not only your girls but your son also are gifts from God. You and Dan model the principles shared in your book. Thank you.

  5. Thanks for the wonderful post & photos! God ordained marriage, and only through Him is it possible. My husband and I married more than 10 years before we were saved, and we thank God that He kept us together even before we had the indwelling Holy Spirit. Now we've been married 23 years and we thank Him each day for bringing us together and keeping us together.

  6. I am blessed by all these comments. Thanks friends—old and brand new. Yes, God kept us together even when we didn't seek His will for our marriage. He had an amazing plan for us and brought us to Himself. Can't imagine spendng a day without my Jesus or my Dan.

Blessings to all and to your marriages,

    Elaine
