A Year That Could Change Your Life

This photo reminds me of me 31 years ago. Great with child, I accepted Christ as my Savior. I've never been the same.

For years I read stuff. Starving for truth I decided that year I would read nothing but the Bible. No TV, newspapers, magazines--only the Bible. I devoted one year to filling myself with what I hungered for--God and His Word to me. It was the best year of my life.

So good, I decided to do the same for a second year.

What did this mean to my family? I told my friend this story. As I told her about the Baby born in my heart, I continued telling her about the baby born from my womb. Gentle, kind, and loving he rarely gave us trouble. An extraordinary son, for sure. I take no parenting credit. All I was doing was reading the Bible.

My friend responded, "Well look what his mother was doing for the first two years--the most formative years--of his life? Think about the tranquility that must have been in your home when you left the world behind and only sought God?"

Reading God's Word can change your life. At the end of those two years God called us into full-time ministry. I often wonder if I would have heard that call had I been reading the newspaper instead of the Bible.

We read so much junk. Please, read His Word and see the difference a regular devotional time with Him makes in your life and the lives of your family. Perhaps you'll take my challenge to read nothing but the Bible for a year. I guarantee more than a splash of serenity--a deluge is more like it.

Blessings,

Elaine

  1. What a beautiful way to get grounded. God is so amazing. I read through the Bible from start to finish right after I got saved. I always feel like he arranged for a special infancy time for me. I was a RN Traveler at the time and got saved 1 week before I went to Kauai for a 4 month assignment. Once there I was surrounded by Christians and removed from temptation in terms of romantic desperation (there wasn't a single cute guy on the entire island). I did nothing but lie on the beach & read the Bible. God is so good.

  2. What a great and amusing testimony, Diane. Really? Not one cute guy on the whole island? I think God just wanted you to keep your eyes on Him and off the men so He made them appear not cute. Thanks for sharing. Love ya.

  3. Elaine,

Ah...your faith and testimony are an encouragement to so many, especially me. To read this, was a double blessing. I find it so wonderful to know God is orchestrating our lives - He knows before we can even think or dream it. Thank you for sharing! You are such a blessing to me!
