How to Have Your Best Year Ever

There are so many forces pulling  at our minds and our time, we can lose focus as our years become blurs of busyness and chaos lacking much of anything meaningful. How sad.

In 2016 I'm determined to get my life back and live to the full. As I reflect back on "best years" I remember the two that stand out.

The best year of my life was 1980. That year I gave my life in total to Jesus Christ. Determined to fill myself with all of Him and none of the world, I made a vow.

For one year I would read nothing but the Bible.

No magazines, books, TV, movies, radio. The Bible filled my days. God's Word consumed my heart and my soul.

You see, prior to 1980 I read anything and everything. I love to read and my head was full of worldly nonsense. May I add,

I was miserable.

Wanting to empty my mind of all that nonsense and fill it with all  truth, every day, at every opportunity, I read my Bible. The miserable left and

Joy filled my heart!

1980 was the best year of my life. It was so good, I decided to do it again. For another year I read nothing but the Bible.

Funny, I have no idea who was  President in 1980 or 1981. What movies debuted or rock stars died didn't make it into my brain. Without the big news events of a new decade ever before my eyes, I know, it's amazing, but

 I'm still alive!

Interesting, after those two years I started receiving invitations to speak and Dan and I heard and obeyed God's call  to serve Him in full-time Pastoral ministry.

Would I have heard God's voice to speak and to serve had I not consecrated two years of my life to Bible study? I always wonder, but I'll never know, if His Voice telling me His will for my life would have been heard. Or,

Is the Voice of God  drowned out by the clamor of the world?

If you want the best year of your life, I suggest, you spend a concentrated part of your day every day hearing from the Lord.  He has something to tell you that may make every year your best year ever!
He wants to splash serenity on your soul!

My one New Year hope is that I will spend less time wasting myself with worldly ways and more time immersing myself in the Word of God.

Will you join me on this adventure?

"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth:
meditate on it day and night,
so  that you may be careful to do everything written in it.
Then you will be . . . successful."
Joshua 1:8 (NIV)

Happy New Year, my friends!

  1. Love it and it's been the direction The Lord has been pushing me too for the coming year. I'm so tired of those "yammering voices" that keep pulling my attention away. Thank you for this gentle nudge, Elaine. Happy New Year!

  2. I'm so glad I was able to do this in 1980 before the social media distractions. There is so much to read and watch that is helpful on our journeys, but God's Word is the best for us. Blessings on your journey. Love you!
